Contained below are several dog breeds for single women living alone. These breeds are ideal for a female who is looking for a dog that best fits her lifestyle. Considering the potential risks for single women who live alone, they need a huge dog or at least one that comes with a good bark.
However, there are other characteristics to consider as well, such as the dog’s personality and looks. To aid you in this process, we have compiled a list below.
American Pit Bull Terrier
This one is not necessarily the best guard dog; however, his appearance alone will have you thinking twice. The dog’s thick jaws, strong neck, and muscular body make them look far tougher and braver than, in reality, he behaves. A bulky, physically strong dog needs to learn, at a bare minimum, the basic rules of dog etiquette so that he will have reasonable canine manners.
Although these dogs are very friendly, even to strangers, they can be trained to be very aggressive. They are known to be used in dogfighting rings but are not all have the right personality for this awful, so-called sport.
Some have been rescued from the illegal dog fight arenas and are re-conditioned to make excellent pets. Although one of the best dog breeds for single women, they are not always an option. Some apartment complexes, condo homeowners organizations and insurance companies will not allow this breed on site.
If she plans to have kids someday, give him extra points. When around kids, they’re very good. But this changes when they’re around other dogs. He is happier being the only dog.

German Shepherd or Alsatian is Absolutely One of the Best Dog Breeds for Single Women
This is a great dog. If you find one that doesn’t have health issues. They have a bark that is quite deep and loud. They are also ranked as one of the most popular family dogs in the United States.
German Shepherds are known to be quite fierce because they are usually associated with working with the police and the military. Home invaders almost always avoid houses with this dog in residence.
A large dog that’s tall and can weigh up to 90 pounds, his looks are quite intimidating. They are often used by professionals to serve as a guard dog. Proven to be an excellent service dog, drug and bomb sniffer, they are quite versatile working dogs.
They come in various colors, but most of us are best acquainted with those that come in black and tan color patters. Some are all black or all white though they may also come in a variety of other colors as well.
Not only are German Shepherds intelligent, they are also extremely loyal. If they’re socialized appropriately as puppies, they can be taught to interact well with visitors in your home. They are smart enough to be trained to shift gears from family pet to protector upon command.

Doberman Pinscher
These dogs were actually bred and are often trained to provide protection for an individual person. For this reason, they are a great choice for women living on their own. Even if their primary goal is to have a loyal companion to keep them company while living alone, it doesn’t hurt to have a protector on hand.
It turns out that they are really quite intelligent dogs. They are easy to teach specific tasks and to train to guard both their owners and their territory. Typically more aggressive around strangers, early socialization and adequate training for both the owner and the dog is important.
They measure around 26 inches at the withers and can weigh around 70 pounds. They are known to be athletic and quite muscular. Most of them come in black and tan hues. However, there are a few other color patterns accepted by the AKC as well.
As with all breeds, health problems common to these dogs are often the result of breeders specifically breeding dogs for certain traits. Some of those traits are associated with health problems seen in this breed.
Some suffer from dilated cardiomyopathy which is a disease of the heart muscle. Others may have a vertebral instability of their cervical spine. This is classified as a disease of their musculoskeletal system.
These very intelligent, athletic and loyal dogs can be wonderful companions and guard dogs but require a strong owner as head of their “pack”.

Rottweiler
This breed is a great watchdog for the entire family and makes for a wonderful companion even for single women, too. They are very loyal companions and are more than happy to serve as a guard for their humans.
Some can weigh up to 130 pounds. As a matter of fact, not everyone can physically handle this dog. It’s therefore important to take into consideration the size of both owner and dog.
Early puppy socialization is critical but is due more to their size than their personalities. Their health problems are typical for a dog of its size but they do have an increased chance of becoming obese if they do not get enough exercise.
Whether companion or guard dog is what you have in mind, this breed can fit the bill under the right circumstances.
